These vines are cultivated in a well thought out manner which provides a maximum of respect for the ecosystem and the environment.Ĭoncrete tank. 100% percent of these vines are planted on dry chalky rocks named caillotte. This Sauvignon is produced with 30 years old vines. What I will say is this wine has the level of quality to deliver to palates that know and appreciate the best. I won’t embellish and compare this wine to top Sancerres such as an Edmond Vatan “Clos La Neore” or Louis-Benjamin “Le Mont Damne”. This wine SCREAMS for seafood, shellfish, or even sushi. There was bright citrus fruit in all the right places, and aromatics on the wine that just made you want to bury your nose in your glass and not come up for air. All we can say is WOW! While all the Sancerres we have offered are wonderful at their respective price points, this particular bottling has a little more depth of flavor in the core of the wine. When my supplier called me up and told me I have to check out this limited special bottling from the Idiart Domaine as it was “off the charts”, I was all ears.Īs we do with every wine we are considering, the team and I just sat down to taste a bottle of 2019 Domaine Idiart “Les Vallons d’Or” Sancerre 2019. We sell a Pinot Noir from this producer (Maison Idiart - Petit Sauvage Pinot Noir 2019) under $15 a bottle that is one of the best Pinots I have ever sold the price point. I have been selling and offering his wines for many years, and his values have been simply superb.

This is when Nicholas decided to purchase an estate in the Loire Valley where he could continue the family legacy in his own fashion. Nicholas would have carried on the family tradition of making wines for his own estate in Bordeaux, but the cost of land in Bordeaux was prohibitive. Nicholas was schooled at the University of Bordeaux and was still a teenager when he graduated. Nicholas is a 3rd generation wine maker, both his father and grandfather were winemakers that made wine primarily in Bordeaux. This wine comes from Domaine Idiart, an estate managed by Nicholas Idiart. Both subsoils impart a mineral driven, “flinty” component that makes the wines crisp, zippy, and balanced. The rolling hills of the region are laden with limestone which is made up of 2 sub soils, Oxfordian and Portlandian. What makes the area ideal for producing great Sauvignon Blanc is the Terrior. Out of all the appellations in the Loire, without a doubt, Sancerre is the most recognizable and “in-demand”. While small, the town of Sancerre in the Loire Valley is home to the finest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc in the World.
